Lillian was referred to Reason to Give by her daughter-in-law Shantá who has been in the program since 2009. Her hopes are to receive help for her ten-year-old daughter Angel. Lillian is a single mother of three, two boys 19 and 20, and one daughter. She is also grandmother to three, a four-month-old boy, Shantá's son, and two baby girls seven months and seventeen months.

Lillian has lived in Humboldt Park for 26 years. She loves the sense of community she feels here and hasn't experienced any problems with the neighborhood while raising her children in Humboldt Park. She is thankful that her two boys have gotten through their youth without being affected by gangs or violence. Her oldest son just graduated with a certificate in computer science and her 19-year-old will soon be attending Lane Tech to specialize in automotives. Lillian tells us that her daughter's favorite activities are reading and talking, and she hopes that one day Angel will put her communication skills to work and become a doctor or a lawyer.

Last year, Lillian lost her job and has been struggling ever since to provide for her household. She now spends her days looking for work, volunteering at Angel's school, and watching her grandchildren. While her sons are adults now, she worries about not being able to give Angel the things she needs, especially when it comes to tools for her education. Lillian is asking for items for Angel, such as school uniforms, school supplies, winter wear, and shoes. She hopes to one day be able to provide a computer for Angel as well because Lillian understands how necessary computers are in today's technology driven world. She also needs bedding and items for the kitchen. Finally, Lillian would like to provide her grandchildren with some basic baby essentials.

Lillian tells us that she joined Reason to Give in the hopes that we could help her through these hard times and also because she is very interested in meeting others in her community that are struggling through similar circumstances. She is very thankful for any donations that go to all people in need.
